Wednesday, June 4th – *Summer-like temperatures finally push into the northeastern states…the “Home Run Forecast Index” has responded accordingly*

Temperatures at the 850 mb level soared today to well above-normal values across the Northeast US bringing a touch of summer for the 1st time this year to places like Philly, DC, NYC, Pittsburgh and Boston.

Summer weather has finally reached the Northeast US and the Home Run Forecast Index has responded accordingly. The games played today in Cincinnati and Boston featured HRFI values as high as 10 out of 10 which represents the best weather conditions for the ball to carry…indeed, the number of total runs piled up in both games and there were numerous Home Runs. The Red Sox/Angels game featured 20 runs and 2 HRs and the Reds/Brewers game had 10 runs and 3 HRs. The summer-like conditions will exist in Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C. tonight and in both places the HRFI is liable to be near the top of the scale. The summer-like warmth will continue in the Northeast US for the next couple of days, but showers and thunderstorms are likely to return as a threat from late Friday into Saturday. The month of May was quite cool in many northeastern states with the past weekend featuring low temperatures in the 40’s in places like Washington, D.C. In fact, the low of 48 degrees at Washington’s Reagan National Airport on Sunday was the lowest temperature there in the month of June since 1972.
